Define the appearance you want

Begin with a sketch of the finished installation. A surface-mounted approach leaves the profile visible on the mounting surface, while a recessed approach places the section within an opening. Decide how much of the profile you want to see and show that intention in the project drawing.

Review the mounting surface

For a surface-mounted proposal, identify the substrate and available fixing locations. For a recessed proposal, record the opening width, depth and surrounding finish. Have the installer review these details against the selected section drawing before making or modifying an opening.

Plan cables and access

Mark the cable entry, connections and access needed for the lighting assembly. Consider how the diffuser and other components will be fitted and accessed after the surrounding work is complete. Review the LED strip and power supply requirements with the relevant supplier and installer.

Compare complete proposals

Compare profiles together with their fixing parts, covers and end caps. Include the preparation work required by each installation option. A useful comparison is a complete installation proposal with agreed dimensions and components, rather than two isolated product photos.

Check before ordering

Request the section drawing and, where needed, a sample assembly. Ask your installer to confirm the fit and access in the intended location. Send unresolved details to the supplier before confirming quantities or final cut lengths.
